Bath time is always a fun time for my 2 year old son. One morning during his bath, he discovered something new. A little toy float had a pin-sized hole in it through which it got filled with water. He happened to squeeze it and water shot forth. He laughed hysterically. It was so exhilarating that he kept squeezing it until all the water inside was depleted. He became frantic so he squeezed the toy float harder and faster. No more water came out. I laughed to myself as I thought, "He actually thinks it contains an endless supply of water."
At that moment I was reminded of God's endless supply of living water. Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well that "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But, the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:13-14, NKJV).
There are times when we feel that our well is dry and all the water is depleted. We may even try desperately to get replenished with water that will leave us to thirst again. That is when we need to drink from the only water that satisfies so fully that we become filled to overflowing with God's eternal life. The river of life will quench your every thirst.
