I was meant for the cross and the cross was meant for me
But from the heavens, Love looked down with mercy
Righteousness required a living sacrifice
A spotless, perfect, blameless, holy life
The blood of animals couldn’t set me free
From the bonds of sin, that beset me so easily
I’d broken God’s law, without hope, I was lost
Destined for hell; I had no way to pay the cost
My sins were so great, so numerous you see
That I could never ever pay, but then He stepped in for me!
I was meant for the cross and the cross was meant for me
So the Lord stepped in, took upon Him my sin and paid the penalty
He bought my life, my healing, even bought my peace
If that were the end, it would be enough my friend
Yet from the dead, He rose triumphantly
And He beckons me to reign with Him eternally
