Release Your Burdens With the Help of God, Mirror Newspaper, March 2, 06, Vol. 2, No. 26
by Krystal Kuehn
Do you ever find yourself so weighed down with burdens that you think you can’t bear anymore? Problems that weren’t resolved yesterday carry over to today. And as each new day presents itself with new problems, it just adds to the heaviness you already bear. Frustration and exhaustion drag you down and it becomes increasingly difficult to stand under the weight of your problems.
This is the way many people live their lives. They carry the many burdens of every day life—job stress, health problems, financial hardship, relational conflicts, and so on. If that isn’t enough, they make other people’s problems their own as well. Worry occupies their minds. And they begin to feel helpless when they try to fix things or make them better, but nothing is working. They know they need to accept their inability to control situations or people’s decisions but they want to do something that will help and make the difference.
There is one thing you can always do and that is to pray. Never underestimate the power of prayer. Prayer that is heartfelt, diligent, and full of faith will allow you to release your cares into the hands of God who promises to take care of you. All He requires of you is that you believe Him. You can ask Him to strengthen you and fill you with His peace and calm. You can trust in His faithfulness to give you direction and guide your steps. You can trust His sovereignty and know He is in control and will work in the lives of those you care about and keep them in His care.
There is an old hymn that encourages us to take our burdens to the Lord and leave them there. It reminds us that He is always with us and He will bring us out of our troubles if we give them to Him. That doesn’t mean we’re not to do anything about them or we’re to live in denial. What it does mean is that we weren’t meant to carry the load of troubles and pain alone.
We can experience the relief and peace that come from giving the Lord our burdens and knowing that we can trust Him to help us. If something is weighing you down today, know that you don’t have to carry it all on your own. You can take your burdens to the Lord and leave them with Him. Entrust them to the care of the One who knows best, cares about you and all that concerns you more than you ever could.
